Two days with Edinburgh Yarn Festival. Long queue outside the venue even for the people who bought tickets in advance. I have to say the queue was only there until the doors opened. Volunteers checked the tickets and handed out bracelets in the queue before the doors opened. Really efficient! When the doors opened, we just had to show our hand with the bracelet and walk in. There were a locker room to hang our winter jackets. Or the day's haul if you shopped more yarn you could carry. And the money for the locker is all for charity, Children's Hospice Across Scotland, so if you shopped more than you could carry you can support a good cause ... Inside Corn Exchange all the stands were filled with gorgeous yarn. And a few skeins, just a very few, were screaming my name. Yes, we need to redefine the word few. Edinburgh Yarn Festival - lots of lovely people, some old acquaintances, some new acquaintances, some I had my fangirl moment over (Ysolda and Katie) and of course my great travel company. Experience from the festival:
- It's not the smartest thing to start a new project with a pattern demanding a certain concentration. I knew this, I might have suppressed it. I started Well & Honey by Drearyknits, and counting the stitches casting on, starting the pattern ... it often means, knitting the same round several times.
- Sometimes the festival doesn't have access to a lot of variety of food. I know there were more than cake at the festival, but sometimes if you have to check out more vendors and yarn, they run out of salad and sandwiches. It might be a good idea to bring your own food. Just to be sure! (And to avoid turning hangry.)
- It's a thing to show off your knitted garments at a knitting festival. Sometimes the venue is hot. Knitted garments in wool tend to keep you hotter than hot. A knitted garment with short sleeves, is a good idea. I ended up with a skirt and thin stockings and a knitted sweater. I also wore a knitted related t-shirt underneath. A smart thing, so you can still show off you are a knitter even after taking off the knitted wool sweater and melted into a pool of sweat.
- It might be a good thing to remember the name of the pattern of the garment you are wearing, and what type of yarn you used. You will get questions, and you come out a lot smarter if you can answer something else than: "I don't remember!"
Photos of my haul might come later, if I dare ...
