Oppsummering for januar:

Yes, I am. January has lasted like forever. And I had just started to dare to think about spring, and then the sky just threw tons of snow back at me. And the freezing cold! I'm so happy I have a fire place. I've been using it almost every day now. I don't have too much time to knit, but I get some knitting done just because I always carry my knitting with me and whenever I have a few minutes. Right now I attend lectures twice a week, and I always bring my knitting. When do you knit? I just finished a Marius sweater in Drops Baby alpaca silk using two threads in size L. It turned out really soft and nice.
January
I finished 8 projects - 3 sweaters, 3 pairs of socks and 2 pairs of mittens. All together 1965 g or 8098,3 m, from my stash, and I haven't bought any yarn this month. I would call that a good month.

High Hopes
Januar er snart over! Her ligger jeg faktisk ganske godt an.
Selbuvotter strikket i Finull.

January is almost over. A month with new resolutions, new hopes, new plans. How is it going, people? Do you keep up with your resolutions still? How is it going with one color a month, stash down, stop buying yarn and everything like that? I'm actually doing quite well. I haven't bought any yarn yet. I have finished 7 projects so far. Not all blocked and photographed yet, but I'll do that soon. I still have control over my yarn stash over in and out. A lot easier since I have only knitted up yarn and not bought any. Padding myself on my shoulder! All of my yarn is still not on Ravelry, but at least I put all my yarn in two cabinets where it looks great and tempting. Cleaning up in my yarn stash makes me want to cast on all the things, but so far I've been a good girl and finished up projects instead. I still have a lot of projects I need to finish up before I cast on anything new. Well, if I follow that, time will show. But so far, January is a good month knitting wise.
I finished a pair of Selbu mittens using Finull from Rauma. They don't weigh that much, but at least it is yarn from my stash and I didn't have to buy yarn. That makes me happy. Another thing that makes me happy, is the fact I didn't have to frog a stitch to knit the mittens. I just knitted one left mitten and one right mitten at the first try. (I probably shouldn't brag to much about it, all of a sudden I'm back to knitting two left mittens ...)

Girls Like You

Girls Like Me needs a pile of woolen sweater to get through winter. And I signed up to test knit Gortenzia designed by AlKnit, and I actually found some fitting yarn in my stash. Not that it was surprising considering the size of my stash. Anyway, the yarn is pure lambswool I bought at the knitting festival at Fanø, Denmark in 2018. Not from the oldest stash I have, in other words. The pattern isn't released yet, but I highly recommend it when it is. It's the first time I have tried saddle shoulders. The sweater is knitted top down, and I love the fit of it. The pattern is well-written and is quite a fast knit. I'm happy with the first sweater knit to myself in 2019. And my stash is reduced with 224 g.

Sweet but Psycho
(Tittel: Sweet but Psycho - Ava Max)
Sometimes I miscalculate the yardage. Not often, but sometimes. Normally I don't need more than 50 g in the main color for a pair of mittens. But these mittens, Deathflake mittens is knitted with more stitches in the round than normal Selbu mittens, and the Finull skein of yarn I found was without the label. And I just couldn't remember if I had used anything from the skein or not. But if I knit fast enough, I mean, everybody knows the yarn lasts longer if you knit fast enough, right? Well, I won this round of yarn chicken, so I guess I knitted fast enough. I finished the pair of Deathflake mittens without having to look for more yarn, which I'm pretty sure I didn't have and would have ended up buying yarn. And I'm not buying yarn. I'm destashing. A huge despising these mittens, 71 g out of my stash.

Wow
Wow! Ganske enkelt i grunnen.

Wow! The discussion on Instagram has really engaged a lot of people! I see so many participate. I like it! I think it's a good thing. Besides checking Instagram, I have finally managed to weave in threads and sew together my first sweater in 2019. Technically I knitted the sweater in 2018, but I didn't finish it until 2019. Sometimes it takes a while to weave in threads, believe me. I felt a bit of pressure on this sweater, since it's not for me. But hey, I finished it. It turned out real fuzzy and warm. It's an easy sweater to knit. I just measured the person who wanted the sweater, made a swatch. Or, can I call it a swatch when I cast on a few stitches and knitted about 3-4 rounds? Well, that's what I did. And I just did the math to calculate how many stitches I needed to cast on to get the right measurements. The sweater is basically four rectangles in garter stitch, so just a basic sweater to knit. I used one thread of Kids-silk in light pink from Drops and one thread of Puna in light grey from Drops. The fabric turned out real fuzzy and warm, and the color combination was nice too. I would love to have a cozy sweater in this fabric. Maybe next year. Or the year after ...

hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have
I hope it's not. This past week has been something on Instagram. If you're not on Instagram, the last week has been all about white privileges in the knitting community. As in all kind of communities, the representation of people of color or people who are not white, skinny people, are underrepresented. I guess the habit of not finding representation of how diverse the community is, kept everybody silent until this week. Or maybe it wasn't silence, maybe it was voices who were talking out but not heard. Who knows? The point is people are talking about it and calling out how excluding the community actually is. And come to thing about it, how many people of color have you seen modeling knitwear? I know I have seen more the last year than I have since I started knitting about 40 years ago. And I'm not saying I have experienced a lot of racism in the knitting community. Or in general. But after reading stories about racism, I have to admit, I have experienced it. In my mind episodes about my skin color or my roots, were minor, a detail, common, nothing to think about. But I thought about it some more, and got a bit scared. Is it that common, is it so natural that people think about it as minor episodes not worth mentioning? Just a detail, nothing to react upon. I haven't reacted too much, but I frequently experience Norwegians talking to me in English. I speak Norwegian very well, actually I would say better than most people since I soon have a Master's degree in the language of Norwegian. Do they speak to me in English because of my skin color? They never talk to my Dutch girlfriend in English, but she's white. I also frequently get asked; Where are you REALLY from? From Norway. No, but really from? From Oslo. No, I mean, where are you REALLY from, your parents; where are they from? Norway. I know they don't mean that, but I am from Norway, my parents are from Norway. I don't think white people get that question. I don't think white people get compliments on how good they speak Norwegian either. It's the small things. And I read on Instagram, that for some people, it's not only the small things, it's getting ignored in knitting groups, not being served in yarn stores. It's not a good thing to read. It's heartbreaking. But it's good somebody spoke up. Racism need to be addressed and talked about. I'm a believer of talking about it.
I remember growing up. No actors, no actresses, no kids in tv-shows for kids, no tv-hosts were ever Asian. No models were Asian. Kids need somebody to look up to. They need people of their own color, their own gender, their own sexuality to look up to. Diversity is the key. I love how novels and movies and series now have a more LGBTQ-representation, and a more diverse representation too. Not just the stereotypes. I love how women have stronger parts in series and movies. I love how POC have stronger representation too. I can still only name two actresses with Asian looks.
I hope the discussion forces people to reflect upon own behavior. I'm hopeful!

Lost In The Fire
Har jo gått for to ferdige prosjekter pr. uke.

We have a fireplace! I love it! I just love the fire place, the sound of it and I can just look at the fire for hours. And we are really getting close to empty all the boxes. It's just one left. It got my name on. I'm going to empty it during the weekend. It's going to be so great to just make this house to a home. And of course I get more knitting time when all the boxes are unpacked too. And since my goals for the year are pretty high, I need a lot of knitting time. So far I've only finished one project, a pair of socks in Fabel. But I only have to sew together a sweater, sew the sleeves in and knit the neckline on a Marius sweater and one sock left to knit on another pair of socks. I think I can finish at least two of those projects during the weekend. I really should if I want to keep up with my goal, two projects every week. First project in 2019 is a pair of socks knitted in Fabel from Drops, size 38.

Imagine
Snakkes i mai?

Yes, Imagine ... And that's really what all. new year's resolutions and promises are about. Imagine ... Last year as the year before that I had New Year's resolutions. Last year as the year before that I didn't keep up with all my resolutions. But imagine ... I have some really good excuses for not making it last year, but it's really about the hope and wish to make it. And I'm not giving up. I'm an everlasting optimist. I start 2019 with the same optimism I start every year. This year will be the year I actually finish and follow up my resolutions. For what would we be without the optimism and hope that we could actually turn things around and see something through?
In 2019 I will:
* Diet my yarn stash. As always? I have gotten myself two great closets to keep my yarn, but it would be lovely if they weren't filled up already. I'm going to Edinburgh Yarn Festival, and I have a sneaking feeling I will buy some yarn while I'm there.
* Keep track on how much yarn I use and projects I finish up in 2019. Always a goal as well. This year I plan to keep track longer than April. Let's talk in May.
* Knit and finish 104 projects. I know it's big goal, but I love a challenge. I'm going to try. And I have so many WIPs that if I finish them up, I'll get a great start.
