Yes, it's been a while since I knitted mittens. With thumbs. The last pair of mittens was size 1 year and without thumbs. First mitten was so quick to knit, and it's so fun to knit mittens. They are fast to knit and it's pattern the whole way. Why don't I knit mittens more often? Left mittens, are the key words. All Norwegian patterns have only one chart and the chart is the left mitten. The last sentence is: Knit another mitten while you mirror the chart. Hmmm, you see where you can go wrong? The reason why I don't knit mittens that often is in that last sentence. I forget things like that. I also forget to mirror a chart. I think the chart should be printed in a mirrored version. Wait! English/American patterns mirror the chart and put it in the pattern. I just forget the chart of the right mitten exist, so I forget to scroll down to the right chart or turn the piece of paper to the right chart, and I end up knitting another left mitten. How is that possible? Knit a mitten, that's the left mitten. Knit another mitten, ooops, it turned out to be another left mitten. Frog and knit another mitten, hopefully a right mitten. Sometimes I frog and knit another left mitten too. Now I have managed to make two pairs of mittens, two left mittens and two right mittens. Both pairs are knitted using Finull from Rauma. The pattern is linked from my Ravelry project pages.

Here I go again

Old Friends
Old is a question of definition, but I would call socks knitted 11 years ago old. It's a lot of memories attached to this pair of socks. It's the first project I knitted after an English pattern. I printed out the pattern, read the pattern thoroughly, and I followed the pattern exactly when I knitted the socks. It's really not an advanced pattern, but the instructions were so detailed, much more than I was used to. I now know that Norwegian patterns are a bit more like fill in the blanks yourself. It's also the first time I knitted using thin sock yarn. Earlier I had only knitted socks using Norwegian thick, itchy and scratchy sock yarn that meant your feet would be cold if you wore them inside your winter shoes, unless you had bought your winter shoes a size too big. The yarn I used was Opal, if I don't remember wrong. I don't think I had knitted using multicolored yarn before either, so a lot of firsts knitting this pair of socks. I can't say I used these a lot lately, but I have worn them. I think I knitted a bit tighter before, since these socks are not as loose fitting as my other socks. The pattern was Jaywalker.

For The Very First Time
It's a first time for everything. I had heard a lot of people talking about Blue Faced Leicester and how good the wool was, how soft and squishy. I had never tried Blue Faced Leicester and I had never seen any yarn. At the Knitting Festival in Oslo in November Norne yarn had a stand, and they sell yarn made of Blue Faced Leicester. I bought enough yarn to knit a sweater, and I ended up using the yarn to test knit Aphrodite. The yarn from Norne is incredible to knit with. It's soft, smooth and slids real fast off the needles. The sweater turned out real soft. It also has this shiny effect since the yarn has 20% silk and 10% cashmere. What a fantastic yarn! I'm so happy I'm off to a knitting meet up soon, since Norne Yarn has a stand there as well. From experience I know it's going to be crowded around the stands, so I hope I'll be fast enough so I can buy enough for another sweater. The sweater Aphrodite was a simple pattern, but the pattern at the back made it look real nice. I used a bit over 2,5 skein knitting the sweater.

Blue Jeans
After I arranged a yarn swap lunch at my place, a bunch of skeins ended up different weird places around my house, and I wanted to get rid of the yarn in a hurry. I ended up making a swap deal with Fenlinka. I stuffed all the skeins in a box and shipped them to her. Back I got this cool bag made of jeans together with stitch markers and a needle protector in wood. Great swap! Thank you so much, Fenlinka! (Both for a great gift and for taking the yarn.) The sock next to the bag is half of a pair made with Opal on needles 2,5 mm in size 38.
Sometimes I forget things or don't really get all the information on things. That means often double the work. This weekend I knitted the yoke on a Telemarks jacket in size 6 months. It was a quick knit, and it was fun to knit too since it was such a fast knit. The only thing was that the jacket was supposed to be knit in size 1 year. Only one thing to do, knit another one. It was still a fast knit, but I have to admit the first one was a bit more fun to knit. The last sleeve was knit during a work course today. Now I have to find a working sewing machine so I can cut the jacket and knit the edges. It's a baby jacket so I used Lanett from Sandnes. That is not a pure wool yarn, so I have to use the sewing machine so it won't frog. Have to do that tomorrow.

With A Little Help From My Friends
Two evening, two cafés, an artificial antler serving as a yarn holder, a big knot, one stitch, two scrap yarn projects, a lot of measuring and calculation and swatches, a video or two. It's guaranteed a lot of talk, laughter and a bit of knitting when knitting friends meet. Incredible to think about how long I have known some of my knitting friends, and some are not "only" knitting friends but friends. Think about how boring the knitting world was before the internet.
